One Day, One Battery
Born and raised in California, I happily jump on any excuse to go back and visit family, friends, or my favorite spots. Due to the, uhh, unforeseen events of 2020, this Christmas was the first time I’ve gotten to be back in over a year.
Combining the visit home, my quadcopter that I never go anywhere without, and a little sister with an insatiable desire to leave the house and go explore places made for quite a spontaneous day trip. A quick drive up to Donner Lake for some peace by the water and my first time sledding since college, followed by a pitstop at the Foresthill Bridge (site of Vin Diesel’s iconic Corvette jump), and rounding out the adventure with an orbit above old Sacramento’s own Tower Bridge.
Having only a single battery made for an interesting challenge. We clearly had no idea what we were going to do, where we were going to stop, or for how long we would end up being there, so picking and choosing how long to fly at each location was a dilemma I clearly hadn’t prepared for. While I would like to think I handled it elegantly, the abundance of sweeping, snowy, lakeside clips looming heavily over the 3 total clips from both other locations suggest otherwise. Live and learn, live and learn…..
